On October 8th, Kyiv will host Wizz Air Kyiv City Marathon 2017 – a fundraising charity marathon taking place on the streets of the Ukrainian capital for the 8th time. The GoGlobal team will be running a marathon to help children from 50 schools all over Ukraine to take part in the GoCamp AfterSchool project, aimed to help children to learn a foreign language with a foreign volunteer and develop critical thinking. The Marathon starts at Maidan Nezalezhnosti and will last from 9.00 to 15.00.
The GoCamp AfterSchool project has become one of 10 initiatives from various funds and organizations that can be supported through the fundraising marathon. In order to support GoCamp Afterschool, you can donate on Ukrainian Philantropic Marketplace via this link: https://ubb.org.ua/en/project/3396/. Fundraising lasts from September 4th till October 16th.
GoCamp AfterSchool is a new format of an out-of-school program with the in-depth study of English involving foreign volunteers. After classes, children will be able to participate in the implementation of exciting projects and tasks, communicating with each other only in English. With a specially developed program, children will learn how to work in a team, communicate in a multicultural environment, think critically and be tolerant of others. In spring 2017, the GoCamp Afterschool Pilot was held in 22 schools in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast and involved18 foreign volunteers and nearly 500 children.
The volunteer program will last for three weeks and include:
1. Work on socially useful projects
2. Speaking and movie clubs, games
3. Attending of lessons by volunteers
4. Joint excursions
5. Intercultural events involving all schoolchildren and volunteers
Organizers expect the project to become a real and powerful alternative to regular day-to-day school groups and demonstrate the effectiveness of non-standard approach to extra-curricular schooling.
